need help installing a wordpress theme “autofocus”…it doesn’t show up?

Hello All

I just registered my domain name with ixwebhosting, and have been trying in vain to install the autofocus theme. I have been accessing the /wordpress/wp-content/themes via the control panel’s file manager and uploading the autofocus file to that place, then decompressing it. It shows up in the file manager, but not when I go to my wordpress page, the theme is not available.

Please realize that I know absolutely nothing about coding or the systems that work together to make a website. I am starting from scratch so don’t assume I am doing something that is common sense…Because I probably don’t know what that is! I have tried talking to IXwebhosting but although they try, they only reiterate what is on the wordpress support manuals. I have tried to figure this out myself and just can’t seem to get it.

I am using a modified version of the small business starter kit. The problem I am running into is that on ixwebhosting.com I think I have to move all the files into a ‘mywebsite.com’ folder, and the starter kit doesn’t allow me to move the included files into a folder without giving me an error page when it loads. (it isn’t looking for all the .vb, masterpage, etc in a root folder of ‘mywebsite.com’, and this in return is giving me the error messages).

Hopefully this makes sense to someone out there, and if it does, please help!
visual web editor has built-in file upload software. I don’t have a problem getting the files onto the ftp server, I have a problem ON the ftp server. I created the website, of course, off of the internet using the named software, and AFTER I upload it is where I am having the problem. I was told that I needed to put everything into a file (mysite.com), but when I do this everything that was programmed (visual basic scripts, style sheets, masterpage, etc) doesn’t load into the the page, so I am left with an error. I was wondering if there was anyway I can make this work without having to put everything into a file. Is ixwebhosting just hard to work with? Is there a different place that would allow me to just upload and go? Is there something simple I can do to make it work? Thanks in advance.

Quality Web Hosting? – Unlimited Domains – Unique Dedicated IP?

I would like to know what hosts others use, and about how much they pay per month? I am currently on a shared hosting plan and pay about a year with ixwebhosting, one of the things I love about them is they allow you to host unlimited domains, each with a unique Dedicated IP.

The thing I hate about them, is there MySql server is extreamly slow, and my website seems to be down more then it is up.

I really don’t like moving hosting, and I dont want to make the same mastake again, so I am looking for a good quality web host, with uptime, and speed. If I have to spend a little extra that is fine as my sites have been making some money now and I would like to reinvest into them. One thing I do want is the host to offer unique Dedicated IPs, as I currently have 7 sites.

I know HostGator, and others charge – extra a month, per Dedicated IP. That is getting a little pricey, as I have 7, on top of the hosting fees.

If I have to spend the extra money I will, but if anyone can make a recommendation to a quality web host, with good uptime and speed, that would be even better.

My currently (3 year plan) expires in 15 days, and I am looking for USA hosting.

I use GoDaddy, which I think should be more user friendly. I think what drew me to that is its cheap. I can’t wait to start using iPage once my terms with GoDaddy expires.

I was browsing around various web hosts and it sounds impressive that they’re a green company which offers lots of stuff other companies don’t. GoDaddy seems to win customers with its commercials, their strength is advertisement.

Editing a Website?

My colleague has put up a website for our company and he wants me to go through it just to edit all of the grammar, spelling, information etc. He gave me all of the login information (username & password) and I can get in, the problem is I don’t know how to edit the website! I know a bit about FTP and stuff..but is there a way I can just go onto the website and just EDIT it? The host is ixwebhosting.com… thanks!!

Domain is free for life?

They say that the domains are “free for life”
so…does this mean if i quit their hosting…does my domain get cancelled? is that what it means?…Thanks – Colin

Through my journalism program we opened an account at ixwebhosting and registered 2 domain names. They expired in december but i can renew the herchenrother.com one for free on the original account.

My goal for the domain to be controlled by Neil Herchenrother on a seperate account than the one we have on ixwebhosting. is it possible to transfer this if i renew it? When googled a company called e3auctions is auctioning it off but i have 75 days before they can truly sell it.

That’s all up to the company that registered the domain name for you.

I believe that most have a policy of giving the previous owner first dibs on the domain after it expires (usually you have a month or so), after that, anyone can buy it.

Most DN registries will allow you to transfer the name (either to another account on the same provider or to a different provider entirely), but the process can vary widely and will involve at least 3 steps: the new DNS requesting the transfer, the old DNS confirming the transfer, and the new DNS finalizing it.

There will likely be a fee levied by one or both sides of this process.

Check the documentation on Neil’s provider to see how to begin the process. Also check your old account to make sure that you don’t have the name locked or anything.

A question about webhosting price?

I’m very interesting in this particular web host. My question regards their billing cycle terms. Now they have a plan that states: “24 month price – .95/month” vs. “12 month price-.95/month”. First off I dont really understand that figure. Second, at the end, for the 24month thing, they say: “Total amount to be charged: US 4.80″ and for the 12 month they say: “Total amount to be charged: US 9.40″. Does this meen I have to pay the 4.80 or 9.40 to start or are they just stating the total amount that I would pay in that term? If you want to check out the host: https://www.ixwebhosting.com

The .95/month and .95/month is showing you how much the service costs per month. The 24 month price is cheaper because you are agreeing to use their service for a longer amount of time. I looked at at the site, and it seems like they charge the fee monthly to your credit card. Since your can access other FTP servers, it appears as though there is no blocking on your side of the connection.

This would imply the problem is at the other end. Either the service is down for maintenance or due to a fault or your user name and / or password are incorrect.
